Langemak Kitchen

This renovation was for a family whose Kitchen is the heart of the home.  The existing kitchen was a cramped “U” shaped space that was simply insufficient for this active couple raising four young boys.  The project goals were to create a warm inviting space, comfortable for entertaining and everyday use that would also capture the views and provide access to their waterfront yard.

Space planning was the first challenge to tackle, but a successful solution was found by switching the locations of Kitchen and Dining spaces and pushing the back wall of the Kitchen three feet into the existing Garage.  This expansion created enough space to complete the Owner wish list that included a pro-style range, an island with seating, a 48” refrigerator/freezer, and a built-in dining banquette overlooking the Magothy River.

Throughout the design process, the Owner and Architect worked together to select materials and products that would evoke warmth and comfort.  Distressed cream cabinetry was used at the perimeter of the Kitchen and the furniture detailed island was finished in a “Harbor Mist” stain.  Diane Reale marble was selected for the countertops for its color and veining which invokes the feel of sand and flowing rivers.  A custom copper range hood and backsplash creates a functional and aesthetically pleasing focal point.

All of the decisions made regarding the layout and materials work together to successfully create a kitchen that this family will enjoy for many years to come.
